Trade-ins
Trade-ins and store credit, on one record
A customer brings something in and wants something off your shelf, or credit to spend later. Intake records both sides as one buy, and Shopify handles the sale, the tax, and the stock.
Shopify's own store credit
A store credit payout goes onto the customer's Shopify store credit balance. Nothing separate to track.
Trade toward an item on your shelf
Scan the tag of what they want. Its price and tax come off what you owe them, and Shopify records the sale and takes it out of stock.
Margin in view while you deal
The item going out shows what it cost you and the margin left, and warns when a discount takes it below cost.
When they owe the difference
If their item is worth less, their side becomes store credit and the order waits in Shopify POS for your register to collect the rest.
How it works
One trade, one transaction
The clerk sees one number to hand over or collect. The record keeps both sides.
01
Price what they brought
Add their item at its full value, the same as any buy.
02
Scan what they want
Search or scan the item from your stock. Discount it in dollars or percent off the tag.
03
Settle the difference
Intake shows the cash due to the customer, or what they owe, with Shopify's tax included.
04
Both sides on file
The buy, the Shopify order, and the receipt all show what came in and what went out.
